In 2010, TSG Resources initiated several programs and efforts to help their employees cope with the loss of fellow employees and family members.
To help their staff heal from the pain of their losses, the organization formed a special committee called “Healing Hearts.” This committee identified ways it could help support employees during personal crises and implemented a strategy and plan to use when an employee suffers a loss.
As part of this plan, the committee identified support services in the community to provide counseling and support and also hired a professional Grief Counselor to meet with employees and help them cope with their losses. Additionally, the committee designed a special Sympathy Card and refrigerator magnet, with the Healing Hearts logo and an encouraging quote, which is sent to employees when they suffer a personal loss.
In addition to these efforts, the committee also supports its employees in a personal, customized manner. For example, when an employee’s home was damaged by a fire and she lost three (3) children this past year, the committee put the employee and her surviving child in a hotel, held fundraisers to help her get re-established, collected donations, and gave her generous time off (as she needed) to get re-established. Additionally, the organization’s owners paid for the funerals of all of the children.
TSG Resources recognizes that it must be prepared to support its staff through their personal losses and provides extra support and time to help them do this.
